Here at Alban CAT Power Systems, safety is more than just a requirement it’s a value. We asked our employees what they do to make sure that everyone stays safe. One of our rental team members said “We use lock-out tag-out procedures to ensure that if someone is working on a piece of a power systems equipment the power cannot be restored to that unit”.
So how does lock-out tag-out work? Once the power to the unit has been disconnected, the technician working on the unit will place a physical lock on the power source. Only that individual working on the piece of equipment has the key to unlock the lock. This prevents someone else on the jobsite from thinking that the work is completed and unlocking the unit prematurely.
So why is lock-out tag-out important? Lock-out tag-out is designed to improve safety for those servicing our power systems equipment. When completed properly, these procedures prevent power from being restored to the unit while someone is servicing it which could potentially injure or kill those working near the unit.
